I was sad to take a sick day on Friday and miss the kiddos...but it was much needed! I am feeling a little better. I was sick two weeks ago, had a week break, and now I have another cold. Oh spring, please come soon! We need to open the windows in our classroom for some fresh air!
Parent/Teacher Conferences for the spring are being held as follows:
Tuesday, March 7th
Wednesday, March 8th
Thursday, March 9th
I didn't send a form home, but check for an email about conferences please!
Thursday, March 2nd is Read Across America Day...Dr. Seuss' birthday! This is one of my favorite days of the year! If your child has a Dr. Seuss book that is his/her favorite, they can bring it in! I am going to try to set up times to meet with our prayer partners to read the books!
Love,
Mrs. Cacaccio
RELIGION:
We are breezing through this Unit about Commandments. Students just took the Chapter 15 quiz on Friday. We will complete Chapter 16 this week and students won't have a quiz on it. Well, they will complete the quiz after the chapter, but it won't be counted as a grade.
MATH:
This week, we worked on perimeter, area, and volume. Students should have these formulas memorized for each:
Perimeter= L + W + L + W (adding up all of the sides)
Area= L x W
Volume= L x W x H
We will practice and review Tuesday. Students will have a quiz on Wednesday. We will then start Chapter 12 Division with 2-Digit Divisors.
ELA:
This week we read a Scholastic News about President Trump's inauguration and what is happening around the country. I think it's so great that we can stay current with what is happening around the country and world--but in kid friendly terms!
This week we will read a Scholastic News. I chose to do this because we have a four day week.
We WILL NOT have a spelling list this week.
WRITING:
Students worked on an animal riddle small project this week. They used classroom nonfiction resources as well as iPads to research an animal of their choosing. I'm so proud with how they are serious about their research. I think they really enjoyed this.
They also started another small project called "The Best Part of Me." Students listened to a read aloud of a book called The Best Part of Me. Children highlighted parts about themselves that they loved and why (example: I love my eyes because I can take in the world. I can see what is happening all around me). This will turn into a cute craft too!
We are getting ready for our Publishing Party! YAY!

Let us know if you can make it!
SCIENCE:
Hope you saw the photos on our St. Mary Facebook page! Making paper was a total success! It was so fun! I will definitely continue this tradition next year! The kids did a fantastic job!
Tuesday, we will review for the unit test.
The Makeup of the Earth Unit test will be Thursday, February 23rd.
